Lasers Are Awesome!
Scientists have been busy the past few months figuring out all kinds of destruction they can cause with LASER BEAMS! PEW PEW! The first can cooler of the technologies is a new way to kill mosquitoes using lasers. The company called Intellectual Ventures Lab has created a box that you can set up, using off the shelf components, most of which were bought off ebay, that can detect and zap down mosquitoes right out of the sky. The technology begins by using a field of light to detect when a bug is in it’s vicinity. It then uses a non-lethal laser to illuminate the creature and identify whether or not it is a butterfly, bumblebee or mosquito and in addition if it is male or female. Once it has identified if the bug is indeed an asshole mosquito it then switches over to a lethal laser that pretty much overheats the mosquito to death (mainly the wings it seems). The scientists also speculate that there may be DNA disruption as well. They have also built safeguards to protect humans and other large creatures. They hope to install these types of machine in places where malaria is a large problem. Luckily we have a video (below) of all the action in slow motion!
At other parts of the world scientists have successfully tested a laser beam that shoot missles right out of the sky! Click the jump for more info!
According to scientists this is exactly how it happened:

Robot Unicorns Dash As Rainbows at Light Speed!
The game Robot Unicorn Attack from Adult Swim is cute, hilarious and badass all in one. The animation is very well done and the gameplay involves jumping, double jumping and dashing to attack. It contains rainbows, robots, unicorns, faeries and star shaped rocks…all things needed for a game to be amazing. Mass Effect 2 could take some pointers…that’s all I’m saying.
Feelin’ like a Pimp, Gon’ Brush Yo Robot Off?

Being a big fan of Augmented Reality this really caught my attention. The inventors over at Tsumaki Telerobotics Laboratory at Yamagata University created this wearable Robot. The robot is actually a pair of eyes for a friend who is connected to the internet miles and miles away. The robot actually has two camera’s in it’s head that are wirelessly transmitting data across the internet to a computer where someone is stationed with goggles on that let them see what it sees. Moreover the little Robot head and the goggles are connected as well; the robot’s head turns with the goggles, meaning you have full control to look around the room. Think about the revolution this is! You can totally miss a meeting and just send your buddy in with a little Robot on his shoulder and BAM! you are in the room too. AWESOME! Now all they need to do is give it some skin (like put it in a stuffed animal or something) so that it doesn’t look so…roboty. Click the jump for a video of the cute little bastard in action!
Because 3-D isn’t enough

To the uninformed gamer, the vests above might look like your ordinary tactical combat vest… but you would be wrong. The vest is actually from a company called TN Games and was started by a real doctor! The good doctor created the technology for this vest when he was asked to create a system that allowed him to remotely diagnose prisoners. He came up with a vest with a bunch of sensors on it that relayed tactile information back to him as he touched s special mouse-pad with pressure sensitive sensors for each of his fingers. The result was he was able to feel patients without being in the room. A good friend of the doctor looked at the device and proceeded to bitch slap the doctor and ask him why he didn’t apply it to games?
So here we are, the 3RDSPACE vest is what has become of a once noble technology. What does it do? The best contains no less than eight pockets (4 in front and 4 in back) that in inflate rapidly with compressed air when you have been shot/struck/knifed/fraged in a game! That’s right….you can finally FEEL your games! Click the jump for links to the web site and a cool interactive flash summary of what the vest can do!
Slow Motion Lighting looks badass!
This video of slow motion lighting makes me jealous of people like Cole from iNFAMOUS and storm from X-men. If I could control lighting I would be shooting slow-motion lighting all day. Like weed is to stoners…slow-mo lighting would be to me. With slow-mo videos finally showing scientists how things are working on a frame by frame basis, recreating things in a lab becomes much easier. Cool!
Necklace of Vinyl Books

Ever since MP3 files have gone portable CD’s, Tapes and Vinyl have gone the way of the Dodo (although Vinyl records DO sound the best). One creative artisan has taken reclaimed Vinyl records and made a one-of-a-kind book silhouette necklace. Each one is created with love and unique. The necklace comes in a nice tin box for maximum cuteness when given as a gift. With Valentines Day right around the corner it could be a nice unique gift for that special someone in your life, plus you can show everyone that your girlfriend (or you) are literate and enjoy a good novel.

Take the whole thing with you

The picture above is an entire working bike folded between two wheels. Designer Dominic Hargreaves decided he was sick of taking one wheel off his bike only to return and find the rest of the bike missing. Since no bike manufacture’s could give him a viable solution he decided to take matters into his own hands. The Contortionist is inspired by the Transformers and everyday convenience. The bike folds into itself until it fits between it’s two 26′ wheels. So, instead of just taking a wheel with you, you can drag your wheel sized bike behind you, or pick it up for safekeeping and space saving storage. The design was nominated for a few awards and Dominic is in talks with companies to get his creation off the ground. Click the jump to see a video (trust me you want to see this thing transform). I especially like the fact that he hides the chain of the bike in the frame, genius.
This video rings too true
If your anything like me this video will really hit home. I sit down daily to post something here that I know everyone will love and then the Internet kicks in and starts whispering in my ear like an evil Jiminy Cricket. An hour or more later, some chafing, and a trip to the bathroom, BAM, I am back to where I started and Uncharted 2 multiplayer is on next to me… It’s like blacking out after drinking all night. What happened? I have no idea, but I know maybe someone on chatroulette can let me know what they saw me doing…
Kitties Kill Zombies Too!
This week the image on the right surfaced around the Internets, and the image on the left has been around for a while. So? I fear an impending zombie Apocalypse is upon us, and it is only a matter of time between nanotechnology and medical advances in biochemistry that someone accidentally reanimates dead tissues. As a nerdy man I have had plenty of written, mental and virtual experience planning and defending for myself during a Zombie outbreak. The problem lies in the fact that my girlfriend has zero interest in planning or preparing for the inevitable. NOT ANY MORE! Girls love cute things, and these two killing machines are cute as hell. From the Kitty graphic on the butt of the AR-15 to the adorable heart splash pattern on the blade guide, these are made for killing and looking cute.
